Leonard Maassen

Artist
Leonard Maassen (b. 1998, Paris) is an audio-visual artist of German heritage based in London. His multi-sensory compositions explore how more-than-human agents find expression in bodily perceptions.
Maassen studied BA Geography at the University of Oxford (2017-20) before completing a Master in Composition at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2021-23).
Following a spatial audio residency at IKLECTIK Art Lab, and a series of group shows in Milan and London, Maassen was selected as Finalist for the MUSE Digital Art Award 2023 and for the LOM+you artist programme.
Maassen received a Special Mention at the Sound of the Year Awards 2022 as well as winning the Rose Lawrence Horner’s Prize and a Starred Award for his Master portfolio at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Maassen was a 2023-24 Junior Fellow at GSMD.
Maassen has composed music for screen and theatre with selections at numerous film festivals including Festival de Cannes Court Métrage, Firenze FilmCorti and Montecatini ISFF.
Past performances include The Barbican, Durham Cathedral, Modern Art Oxford and Avalon Cafe.
Maassen’s debut album, “Inside Cycles” was released April 2024.
